4pm: Arrival and wine tasting
5pm: Michael Cook Lesson
6pm: Dinner and wine share
Our lesson will be presented by Michael Cook, Viticulture Program Specialist - North Texas, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. He will be giving a two part talk on wine grape diseases and propagation of wine grape vines. He will start by giving an overview of the growing season and then present a refresher on preventing diseases in the vineyard. He will impart common integrated pest management (IPM) strategies that might be considered for implementation in the vineyard. After a quick break, Michael will give us a primer on propagating grapes in the backyard vineyard via cuttings, callus propagules, and grafting. He will also include a demonstration.
Wine share is a part of all our meetings where members give a short talk about their wine that they have brought. Members may give some details on how they made their wine. Talk about their successes and problems and how they solved them during the vinification process.
